Hydrogen Industry Development

Different Technical Routes In Hydrogen Industry

Among the current technologies for hydrogen production by water electrolysis, they can be classified into alkaline hydrogen production by water electrolysis (ALK), hydrogen production by water electrolysis with proton exchange membranes (PEM), hydrogen production by water electrolysis  with solid oxides (SOEC), and hydrogen production by hydrogen production by water electrolysis with anion exchange membranes (AEM) according to the structure of the electrolysis tanks and the catalysts, diaphragms and other materials.+

Among them, ALK is the earliest industrialized water electrolysis technology, which has been applied for decades and is the most mature; PEM water electrolysis technology has been developed rapidly for industrialization in recent years; SOEC water electrolysis technology is in the preliminary demonstration stage; and AEM water electrolysis research is in its infancy.

The diagram below shows the fundamentals of the electrolytic water-to-hydrogen technologies listed above, and the technology maturity level (TRL) listed in the diagram is classified by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 2020.

Specifications of Solar Thermal + SOEC Technology for Hydrogen Production

Sunfire Germany is a prominent European company specializing in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC) technology. Founded in 2010, they acquired a SOFC company to strengthen their technological foundation.

Based on a Power-to-Liquid (PtL) process, Sunfire completed a project demonstration of a 2.4 MW  SOEC in the Netherlands in October 2010, producing 60 kg of hydrogen per hour for the production of
synthetic fuels, with a system electrical energy efficiency (LHV H2 to AC) target of 85%.

Our dish Solar Concentrator Tracking System with heat collection + heat storage + high temperature steam is the optimal equipment for SOEC, which is the inevitable choice for efficient hydrogen production.
